Introduction to DTM Display

There are a variety of DTM file formats and companies providing the data. Therefore, the following examples relate to data that was kindly provided by The School of Conservation Sciences, Bournemouth University.

The raw DTM data is provided by EDX Engineering in their own proprietary format. EDX Engineering supply a small program to convert this format into an ASCII file. The image below shows a small sample of the ASCII data, highlighting the large matrix of point data.

The ASCII data is then further converted to produce three columns of Easting, Northing and elevation (x,y,z) data. The image below shows a small sample of the (x,y,z) data points.
