abstract:

The revolutionary start of ‘Special Makeup Effects’ and its expansion into different categories during the past century has allowed a great contribution and communication towards the film and TV industry. A brief presentation of the key special makeup effects artists who pioneered in this art is also documented. Basic techniques and different tips on procedures and main materials used for ‘Casualty Makeup Effects’ are suggested, a category that driven the authors attention. Within this category, the author has attempted to practice some techniques of casualty makeup effects. Furthermore, the author has undertaken primary research through electronic interviews with special makeup effects artist in an attempt to find central issues around this art. What kind of special makeup effects are used today in cinematography, how it has affected society, and why this art is still alive, despite the threat of CG, are some questions raised, discussed and presented through images, and video clips.
