FILMS

Innovations in digital and computer technology have vastly changed the way contemporary feature films are made.Earlier most explosions were replicated in minature in real life. But now, Film makers can now add effects like explosions and adjust them according to their needs thus saving cost .Explosions are an important visual effect in these action movies. The image of cars violently exploding, or buildings disintegrating in a ball of fire are not only the most spectacular effects, but provide a sense of danger that keep audiences on the edge of their seats.Movies like the Matrix Reloaded, Terminator 3, Pearl Harbour,Star Trek,Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines use special effects as central elements in their stories, to provide the thrills that make these movies box office winners

In movies like "Pearl harbour",depicting war scenes, the scale of explosions is so great that digital intenvention becomes crucial. In "Pearl Harbour",some of the explosions were real, but more were digital, with some being created as a mixture of live-action shots of real fire and CG smoke. In their case,it's illegal in the US to create real smoke clouds that would be big enough to reproduce the explosions they needed.CG smoke was created with particle systems using layers of fields and forces. Instead, ILM decided to use its in-house VOL Fluid system, a volumetric fluid dynamics system written in ILM's software development department manipulated the fluid system so that it would produce natural looking smoke plumes. In the 'Battle of Britain' scene all the explosions were done by ILM.
