history of special makeup effects
A landmark in the makeup artistry was established when William Tuttle in 1963, won the Academy Award for the makeup artistry for the Galaxy-Scarus/MGM film, ‘The Seven Faces of Dr. Lao’ performed by Tony Randall. He combined every form of character, makeup procedure, along with foamed appliances, special hair and head dresses, and the costumes for each character.

In the 1950s and early 1960s, television was transmitted in black and white. It wasn’t until 1967, that colour took over, and caused the makeup to change completely. Hair had become more important. Artists working in black and white had thought simply in terms of black and white and shades and grey.
Interest in makeup and special effects
increased enormously in the 1980s and this enthusiasm in this filed continues
to grow up until today.
